About me

Hey everybody. My name is Boris, and I am a commercial and editorial photographer from Sofia, Bulgaria. Since 2010, I have exclusively specialized in food and product photography because one of my other passions is cooking. In fact, I am also the co-owner and an instructor at the Amuse Bouche Cooking School for hobby chefs.

The Early Years

Photography came to me as a hobby in college. At the time, I was studying Macroeconomics and Finance at Bard College, NY. I picked my first digital point-and-shoot camera back in 2005, and I was instantly hooked.

Maybe the fact that I had experience with Photoshop and could post-process my pictures helped cement my interest in digital photography. You see, at the time, I was working as a retoucher for a web design company based in New York.

As soon as I started to take pictures with my new Canon PowerShot pocket camera, I started reading books, trying to figure out how to make cool images. I soon found out that I needed to have more control over the image-taking process. So, I saved almost all my money and bought my first DSLR – the Canon EOS 350D.

When I graduated and went back to Bulgaria, I started to shoot proms and parties. I kept spending my free time reading, watching YouTube videos, shooting, and editing. Then, of course, I spent all my money to upgrade my equipment.

Photography, Cooking, and Social Media

While in college, I also found a passion for food and cooking, which later made me start a food blog. I was still shooting at events, but I had to take pictures of the food I was preparing with my partner in crime, Boyana. Soon things escalated. I quit my day job and focused my full attention on cooking and photography. After 2010, we built our business entirely on the back of Facebook, and later we branched out to Instagram and YouTube (starting our first YouTube channel).

I have become more serious about content creation and helping out with social media over the past couple of years. After doing it for ten years for our own businesses, I figured out that sharing what I have learned is worth trying. So now I spend less time cooking and teaching hobby chefs and more and more time taking photos, making videos, and helping other people with social media and strategy.

Travel, Landscape, and Fine Art Photography

By the end of 2019, I had resolved to put more time into photography, editing, and content creation. So I started this website as a side project. I wanted to share what I do in food and product photography and projects in my spare time, which help me to learn and improve.

But, of course, it is easier said than done. It took more than eighteen months to figure out what I wanted to do with this website. Finally, I decided to write about what I already knew about photo editing. Then I started to share new things that I had to learn every day in my new blog. And finally, I want to take you on a journey with my dive into travel, landscape, and fine art photography.

Now I have gathered some steam, and I will keep doing my best to keep the good work and help as many people as possible.
